Another Worldwide Baby Boom?

All the young 'healthy' people are told to stay home, don't work, unless you can remotely, world wide for at least a month...what may happen in about 9 months?  A mini-baby boom. Why mini?  Well the current population is not so fertile as their predecessors. Fertility rates are declining at a pretty rapid rate, yet this is not spoken about much. In the last 4 decades, the western males fertility has declined by 50%! Yikes!  Which puzzles me, when you boil it down to the most important thing for a species on Earth to do, it is reproduce. In fact in every species this is the only thing that matters, the furtherment of the species. Yet, in humans this has been declining for sometime. And rather then look to the causes (yes there are more than one) we just look to find ways to fix it. Although to me it makes more sense to stop the causes in the first place.  From chemical exposures to malnutrition from a lifetime of convenience foods to radiation and unfortunately more.

Think about the last time a sports team won the big one, about 9 months later there is always a rush in the baby ward. So this is every city, every  developed country, around the world. So yes we will most likely see a pretty large boom in birth but it won't be what it could be. Aaaannd those babies and mamas will be in some serious need of nutritional counseling. We have some sick babies and kids in this country and we need to start over in what we know about raising a human.

Today I'll focus on 5 things you can do to boost your fertility, which will also benefit your body if you are in the early (or late, for that matter) stages of pregnancy.

  1. Food matters:  Healthy sperm that can actually make it to the goal are far and few between, so what happens when the sperm are lazy couch potatoes?  They don't stand a chance of making it, well, anywhere. So how do you get your sperm off the couch?  They need vitamins and minerals to become healthy sperm athletes willing to go for the gold. Zinc is super important to sperm health as are B vitamins, selenium, A,D,C,E. Choose real whole foods for almost all your meals.
  2. Ditch your phone.  Don't hold your phone on your body 24/7. And don't carry it in any of your pants pockets, that puts added temperatures and radiation directly towards the organs that are making your goods. Or for women, your developing baby! Don't sleep with your phone anywhere near your body, try to leave it in another room.
  3.  Check your chemicals. Exposure to chemicals can absolutley play a big impact on your hormone system, which ultimately is responsible for your sperm and eggs. In one class of chemical, phthalates, exposure in utero can cause the males to be born with smaller penis, smaller space between on the perineum and the urethra to exit on the side of the penis shaft. This is happening all across our country daily, brand new infants undergoing surgery to correct the urethra placement. This is not a one off thing, these are high numbers of this occurring, why parents are not shouting from the rooftops is beyond me. These kids are our future of this country.
  4. Folate- this one is so huge it gets it's own number. I recently read a statistic from 2003-2006 that 90% of Americans were not getting the recommended levels of folate. This is Huge and probably much worse now! Another important factor is to make sure when you are using a supplement or prenatal to use one with methylated folate. Not folic acid, why well about 40% of our population may have a MTHFR gene mutation which means we have trouble breaking down folate in a form for the body to use. So we are flat out not getting enough and having trouble actually using the little we eat.  And forget about folic acid it is just much harder for the body to even use because it is synthetic, not real. Eat more green foods!
  5. Get your ass outside in the sun. Optimal Vitamin D levels are critical to a healthy body running smoothly. You want your number to be at least 60 or up, get it tested. You can even do it from home so you don't have to even go near a doctors office right now. Click here. Get outside in the sun with as much skin uncovered for at least 15 minutes a day.
