I’ve been using beef fat on my face and my skin has never been happier. Let me preface this by saving I live where it’s really, really dry. In the winter you add that on top of already dry air, even drier air with forced indoor heat. My skin needs more moisture this time of year and I wanted to try something different than what I’d done in the past. I wanted something even cleaner.
Enter, Toups and Co., Tallow Skincare. Let me back track a bit. As you know since you are following my blog, you know that I want to use the cleanest, safest products on myself and my family. Often I start to look back to see what people used to do before we had Targets and department stores. Tallow is the rendered fat from cows, sheep and other ruminant animals. Tallow has been used historically for a very long time in skin care, lotions and soaps. Tallow is mixed with another ingredient to make it more spreadable when it comes to making skincare. Usually oils are used. After learning how what we put on our skin, our largest organ, is so very important, I became an avid label reader. This was frustrating at times, some of the ‘clean labels’ still have ingredients on them that I didn’t know what it was. I wanted something cleaner. I wanted a product that I understand everything that was in it. This is where Toops and Co Organic skincare comes in.
I tried two different tallow balms and look at how clean the ingredient labels were: Tallow balm: 100% grass-fed tallow, organic virgin olive oil, organic essential oils blend of lavender, bergamot, frankincense, and sandalwood. Frankincense Tallow balm: 100% grass-fed tallow, organic virgin olive oil and organic frankincense essential oil. That’s it! It doesn’t get much cleaner than that.
A note on grass fed tallow. This is an important step that needs to be researched before you use just any tallow. Ruminants are animals that need to be solely grass fed to be healthy and happy. By sourcing only grass fed tallow Toops and Co is ensuring what’s best for the animal as well as the planet.
I use the product at night before bed as my final layer to keep my face skin protected overnight. My skin drank up this thick balm and I woke up glowy. I alternate the straight balm with the frankincense balm each night of the week. They have a very mild scent and rub on smoothly. In past winters I’ve had dry flaky skin in the winter time on the lower half of my face. This year, after using these balms, no dry skin. I love it and would definitely recommend giving this a try. I also use it on my hands at the end of the day. Living in a real food house, we cook often and have lots of dishes, my hands are often in need of extra love at the end of the day and this balm works amazingly well.
